Tall thin pine trees, planted in rows, painted in soft pale reds against dark shades of green, gives this painting vibrancy and movement. The tree tops are not seen, as the artist is concerned mainly with the tree trunks and the flowing branches. The afternoon light gives the scene more drama, as it sneaks in between the branches and, on to the almost flesh coloured tones of the proudly standing pines, on a ground that looks like a velvet yellow green carpet.
