Out of his copious and prolific productions, this still life was Rhyns favourite. He confided in his daughter Susan that he executed it to portray his cat lucy. A very large work, it is kept in place by the interplay of lines of fish that go up and down against a distant backdrop of blue, crossing back and forth. Compared and contrasted with the roundness of the onions, the kettle, the basket and the head of little Lucy.
